The Medium is the Message

Marshall McLuhan was definitely onto something when he claimed that the medium information is presented on is more important than the actual content within the message.  At this, people don’t even realize what effects them so much when it comes to new and different technologies.  Different generations are even switching over to the new technological form of media and information distribution.
In response to many people’s concerns with numbing themselves to new and different technology, McLuhan responds:
“I call this peculiar form of self-hypnosis Narcissus Narcosis, a syndrome whereby man remains as unaware of the psychic and social effects of his new technology as a fish of the water it swims in.”
Those who chose to learn the new medium are the ones that will learn about the news, stay in contact with more people, and ultimately be able to maintain contact with the world, as we all know, that is imperative to succeed in this fast-paced world.
“Humans are the sex organs of the machine world”
There are constant upgrades, reformats, and innovative ideas that our information travels by.  People will forever want to be in communication with each other now that we understand how much we can create and share among others.

Food For Thought:
1.       The medium can’t be more important than the message, that doesn’t make sense.  If people didn’t want the information, they wouldn’t be on the medium in the first place
2.       Is print going to die out completely eventually?  With the paperless society we are moving toward, how will this effect jobs, labor, and our society as a whole?
3.       Why were McLuhan’s ideas abandoned by students in the classroom?
